war jacket

War Jacket will be playing at Workplay tonight with Arthur Alligood and Josh Sizemore.

VENUE: Workplay
TIME: 8:00 pm
BAND: War Jacket / Arthur Alligood / Josh Sizemore
COVER: $12

War Jacket

“Sounds like: Faulkner’s short stories brought to life in hauntingly beautiful instrumental melodies and almost-eerie vocals. War Jacket’s lyrics evoke a sort of sad nostalgia beckoning listeners to sit and stew in memory and reflection of a different time.”

— Cory Bordonaro (Southern Living)

Arthur Alligood

“Alligood’s mournful tones lay down wry commentary on our human condition, always with penetrating clarity and truthfulness.”

— Kevan Breitinger (Studio101.com)

Josh Sizemore

From Josh Sizemore bio: Josh Sizemore is originally a Kentucky boy. Inspired early on by the hymns and pastures of his home, he began writing songs in high school before moving to Birmingham. His involvement with Birmingham’s Grey Haven Music Community encouraged him to continue pursuing music. He currently works as a cupcake truck driver as he writes and compiles songs for his first record. He also loves snacking and hopes to open a restaurant with his brother called McSqueezy’s Fine Dining.

VENUE: Moonlight on the Mountain
TIME: 7:30 pm
BAND: The Onlies / Matt Sanderlin
COVER: $12

The Onlies

“A cynical embittered listener tends to turns to quicksand under the strains of consistent persuasion. The Onlies will bring you to the bright side. One must simply love organic acoustic music that is firmly planted in the country from which is sprang. This Lafayette duo is a wonderful fresh approach to lovely love music between lovers.”

— sojournersindecisive.com

Matt Sanderlin

“Patience seems to be the main ingredient here, refusing to settle for a sub-par representation of his hard work Sanderlin’s commitment to putting out a great album, recorded with vinyl transfer in mind, is what sets Lovelorn apart from other alternative acoustic singer songwriters.”

— The Indie Artist Podcast

VENUE: The Nick
TIME: 10:00 pm
BAND: Ultimo Hombre / Thothamon / D.A.M.N. / BoneJackal
COVER: $6

Ultimo Hombre

From Ultimo Hombre bio: The 100% no bullshit approach to heavy music. Crushing riffs with devastating Soul. A fuzzed out, tuned down, doom sledging groove machine.

Thothamon

From Thothamon bio: Thothamon started in July of 2010 with Colt McCormick doing guitars and vocals and John Bella handling bass duties. After many months of practicing and song writing, another guitarist, Max Ryan, and a full time drummer has been found, Patrick Foote. Unfortunately there has been a new lineup change with the departure of Max Ryan and Patrick Foote and the recruitment of Said Lopez on the drums. In May 2011, vocalist Cory Price was added to the crew. Now the band is looking to start spreading Doom to the masses. Doom Over the World!!!!!!!!!

BoneJackal

“Bonejackal plays rock and roll, no vocals, just raw to the nerve UFO rock and roll. Heavily influenced by classic rock the trio also blends elements of early psychedelic acts such as Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath and the proto-punk sounds of the Stooges, and the MC5.”

— The Soda Shop
